Norway Maple Tree #298

Acer platanoides

Tree Description:

Norway maples became popular as an ideal parkway tree in urban areas especially after the Dutch Elm Disease devastated the Elm tree population. Norway maples are known for their beautiful fall colors, are a good source of shade, grow quickly, and tolerate tough conditions. The leaves on Norway maples are often dark green or dark purple and are often confused with sugar maples. Norway maples are self-seeding and have invasive traits that enable them to spread aggressively. To date Clarendon Hills Cemetery has 150 Norway Maples.
