Gleditsia triacanthos
Tree Description:
Honey locust trees are native to Illinois and can have large thorns on the stems and bark, however thornless honey locust are now commonly sold at nurseries. The leaves on honey locust are bipinnately compound, meaning that the leaves grow opposite each other on a larger stem and have a feathery appearance. Honey locusts get their name from the sweet, sticky pulp found in its seed pods, which resembles honey.
