Catalpa speciosa
Tree Description:
Catalpa trees are native to Illinois, are fast-growing, and grow to be 40 to 60 feet tall. Catalpas are known for their long seed pods that last through winter and give these trees the nickname cigar tree. The large leaves and spreading branches make these trees attractive for wildlife and insect pollinators. The Catalpa wood is resistant to rot and has often been used to make fence posts.
